"I felt strongly about using a 3:2 aspect ratio, something that felt closer, boxier, more intimate. Meanwhile, our DP leaned toward anamorphic lenses for their rich texture and cinematic distortion, which naturally live in a 21:9 widescreen format. We debated for a while. Then we came across a video on YouTube about “vertical anamorphic,” where flipping the ARRI Mini sensor vertically allowed us to shoot 3:2 with standard anamorphic glass.
