"We tried to do as much in camera as we can, of course there is a lot of compositing but every part was shot in camera, nothing is a CG object. The rotating cog wheel was 3D-printed, sanded and colored and equipped with a motor, then we shot it turning in front of a green screen. The holes and walls Mika's face is looking through are cardboard cut-outs. The big hand coming from above is my own (I love hands). We wanted to keep as much realism as possible and with that, create a highly artificial and constructed world. The footage was like puzzle pieces and gave me a great playground in post, we also spread a lot of references and Easter eggs across the video. We had a very short time frame to make this (3 weeks from concept to delivery), it was an extreme but also extremely great team effort and a truly beautiful process." director @ruperthoeller
