"We went all in on practical and in-camera effects. For the water ripple effect, we shot the scenes again through an aquarium. For some shots, we used a projector and thunderstorm footage. We used a lot of Vaseline on glass filters and strobe lights.
There is no AI and not even any CGI. Even the thunderstorm clouds are real footage from a cloud tank we built using salt water and milk, creating cloud-like shapes and then throwing a flashlight in strobe mode across them.
Other than a few thunderstorm comps, everything was done in camera. We were a small team with a small budget and took a big DIY approach, which always makes for the most beautiful shoots." Rupert Höller, director
