Born from a Spark

"One of the biggest challenges of this project was capturing 500 years of history and heritage in a way that it would translate into a film capable of appealing to a broad audience while remaining true to its core audience. Then the actual production, as we often shot in difficult conditions, in real factories with real people. I love this approach, it gives the film a greater sense of authenticity, and certain scenes would have been impossible to shoot otherwise, or at least without being very costly. Working with real people (non-actors) is a great challenge for a director, and sometimes it pays off very well, but you need to understand the limits and turn them into advantages. I decided to focus on what they do best, and then explore where I could push myself further and raise the bar even more." Andrea Marini, director
