Ride Like No Other

"We built a custom rig between two cherry pickers, with both the bike and our rider suspended in the middle. Everything was moved by hand using a rope system, which gave us a surprising amount of control. The wheels kept wanting to wobble, so after a lot of trial and error, we added some extra rigging underneath to stabilise everything. Since the rider is up so high, it’s hard to get the world around her to feel connected. That’s why we worked a lot with reflections, in cars, shop windows, anything we could use to tie her back into the environment. There’s something amazing that happens when you lean into the physical and resist the urge to clean everything up in post. There’s a weird kind of beauty in trusting the real world to carry the moment. Imperfect but alive." - Folkert Verdoorn, director
