“We wanted to avoid the typical look of social drama films — the dark, grey, heavy feeling. Many films about trauma or violence use cold or colorless tones, but I think that sometimes makes the audience feel too far away. We researched the architecture of Uzbekistan in detail — the typical buildings, regional layouts. Every house you see in the film is based on a real one. We had just two weeks to prepare and three shooting days. It felt like all of Uzbekistan helped us — people opened their doors, offered support. It was incredibly moving.” - Kvataniya Lado, director
